Reference Guide: 10.4 Audio Files

This options tab allows you to set various aspects of your audio files:
 

Recording Quality

 

When you record in Audio Notetaker, you need to compromise between audio quality and file size. You have six options:
 

  • 3.6  Mbyte/hour  ‘Extra LP’ – suitable for your own personal recordings made close to the microphone
  • 7.2  Mbyte/hour ‘LP’ – suitable for most speech recordings, but the audio may not be totally clear and may have some slight compression effects
  • 14.4 Mbyte/hour ‘Standard’ – suitable for all speech recordings, no compression effects should be noticeable
  • 21.6 Mbyte/hour ‘HQ’ – suitable for all recordings, no compression effects should be noticeable
  • 43.2 Mbyte/hour ‘Stereo HQ’ – only set to this if you have stereo input on your PC and you need excellent quality
  • 72.0 Mbyte/hour ‘Stereo Extra HQ’ – perfect quality (as long as your audio input is perfect)!


To understand which setting is right for you, you may need to experiment a little. For lecture recordings try Standard, if you are concerned about file size or quality then experiment with LP and HQ.

 

Embedding / Linking

 

This allows you to set whether audio imports are embedded or linked:
 

  • Embedded audio – Importing, and pasting from a different project, embeds the audio in the Audio Notetaker project.
  • Linked Audio – Importing creates a link to the external audio file (as in version 1). Pasting audio leaves its properties unchanged.
 

Audio Import

 

This allows you to specify whether uadio files are converted to Opus on import. See Converting Imported Audiofor more details.
 

By default we carry out Speech Quality Conversion which doubles the conversion speed creating smaller files, and makes little difference to the quality of your recordings. You may find that the quality of recordings of more subtle sounds such as musical instruments is affected. You can set the convert to Music Quality Conversion which will take longer to convert but will produce better quality, larger files.

 

Recordings Folder

 

This allows you to set the folder where files are copied to from the Portable Devices view of the File Manager. This is also the location used to save 'unsaved' recordings created during the recovery of an unexpected exit from Audio Notetaker.

 

Time Codes

 

This sets whether to show the Section Numbering and Time Codes by default when you open Audio Notetaker.

 

Microphone Enhancements

 

This allows you to choose whether to let Audio Notetaker automatically disable Windows Microphone Enhancements while recording. These Microphone Enhancements may interfere with Sonocent's own Clear Lecture™ processing.

This setting is only compatible with Windows 8.1 and later.
