You can choose from a number of built in Colour Keys to better help you annotate your recording or create your own. The colour Key you select is stored within the Project file and loaded when you reopen the project: If you edit your key and share your project with someone else, they will be able to see the key you have used.
 

  
 

Viewing Your Key

 

The key is visible in the side bar; chunk and section colouring in the Audio Side Bar and Text colouring in the Text Side Bar.
 

 

 

Selecting Existing Colour Key Templates

 

You can use the drop down box at the top of the Audio Side Bar to choose your colour key from either the defaults or ones that you have created.
 

Note that changing the key after you have already coloured chunks, sections or text will not alter the colouring you have already done.
 

If you open a project with a 'new' colour key then it will appear in italics and greyed out. You can add it to your available keys by using Edit Colour Key and saving the key.
 

 

Editing Your Colour Keys

 

To edit your colour keys, including adding and deleting them, click on ‘Edit colour key’ on the top of the Audio Side bar.
 

 

 

 

A list of your existing colour keys is shown on the left.
 

From this part of the menu you can:
 

• Add a new template (using an existing one to base the initial colouring template on).
• Edit an existing template.
• Remove (delete) a template from Audio Notetaker.
• Set which template Audio Notetaker uses as its default template for new Projects and older documents that do not have a template associated with them.
• Reset the four pre-set templates; this will overwrite any template with the same name.

 

Adding / Editing a Template:

 

Clicking on Add or Edit will make the following options available:
 

 

 

1. Name: If you have selected edit then the template name will be displayed. If you have selected Add the name field will be blank.
2. If you alter the name of the template during editing then a new template will be created when you save the key.
3. Moving Colours: You can click and drag any of the colours, up and down. The first colour in the list will be given the first shortcut key.
4. Renaming colours: Selecting a colour and then clicking again (not a double click), will allow you to change the text associated with the colour (or press F2).
5. Add: Clicking on the Add button will add an additional colour; you will be able to choose what colour to use.
6. Remove: Clicking remove will delete the currently selected colour from your list.

When you have finished editing your colour key template then click on Save. At any point you can click on Cancel to remove the changes you have made.

 

Adding documents with existing keys.

 

If you open an Audio Notetaker Project that has a colour key that is not stored on your computer then you will still be able to use the colour key template.
 

Audio Notetaker will display the colour key in italics and greyed out:
 

 

 

If you want to save the template to your computer so that it is available for you to use in other projects, click on Edit colour key, select the template and click Edit then Save.
